Forsberg Independent Living
Ascentria encourages people with developmental disabilities to live life on their own terms. We work closely with each individual, family and the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services, to develop a system of supports to assist persons towards greater independence, work opportunities and participation in community activities.
Forsberg Independent Living
The Forsberg Program is a unique model that helps persons with developmental disabilities to live on their own terms.
- Provides supports to adults (22+) living independently in the community
- Covers the following geographic zones
- North County
- South Valley
- Worcester
The program is named for David Forsberg, the founder of the program and a well-known public figure in Massachusetts.
Funded by the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services, this program offers the following services:
- Representative Payee Services for individuals requiring assistance with managing social security benefits, including:
- Financial literacy
- Money management skill building
- Bill and utility payments
- Flexible Funding
- As-needed financial assistance with housing and other unexpected expenses that arise posing a risk to an individual’s ability to continue living independently
Individual and Family Supports
- Provides supports to individuals and families with children ages 6+
- Covers an expansive geographic area in Massachusetts covering the following regions:
- Central/West
- Metro

- Family Navigation
- Skills Training
- Respite
